Statement of Faith

This is the long-form theological statement of Glorious Gospel Centre — the convictions that shape our preaching, our worship, our discipleship, and our mission. Every position is rooted in Scripture and tested across centuries of faithful Christian witness.

A Word Before You Read

Why a Statement of Faith Matters

A statement of faith is more than a list of doctrines. It is a public commitment — a declaration of where we stand, what we teach, and how we want to be held accountable. We believe theology shapes life. What a church believes about God, the Bible, salvation, and the Church determines how it worships, how it loves, and how it sends.

Read on if you want to understand the depth of our convictions. If you have questions or want to discuss any part of this statement with a pastor, please get in touch — we'd genuinely welcome the conversation.

Our Belief on Salvation

We believe salvation is the free and undeserved gift of God, made possible only through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. It cannot be earned by good works, religious effort, or any human merit. It is received by grace through faith.

When a person turns from sin and places their trust in Jesus, they are justified — declared righteous before God on the basis of Christ's perfect obedience and atoning death. They are born again by the Holy Spirit, adopted into the family of God, and given eternal life. This new life is secure, sustained by God's faithfulness rather than our performance.

Salvation is past, present, and future. We have been saved from the penalty of sin, we are being saved from the power of sin, and we will one day be saved from the very presence of sin in the new creation. From beginning to end, salvation is the work of God to the praise of His glorious grace.

Our Belief in Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God — fully God and fully man — in two natures, perfectly united in one person, without confusion or division. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life of perfect obedience to the Father.

We believe He died on the cross as a substitutionary atoning sacrifice for the sins of all who believe. He was buried and rose bodily from the dead on the third day, conquering sin, death, and the powers of darkness. He ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He now reigns as King and intercedes for His people.

We confess Jesus as Lord, Saviour, Mediator, High Priest, and Friend. He is the only way to the Father and the sole hope of the world. He will return personally, visibly, and in power to judge the living and the dead and to consummate His eternal kingdom.

Our Belief About the Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ — the global, multi-ethnic, multi-generational family of all who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. The universal Church spans every nation, language, denomination, and era. It is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic in the historic sense of those words.

The local church is a visible expression of this universal family. It gathers regularly under the authority of God's Word for worship, the preaching of the gospel, the right administration of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper, prayer, fellowship, and the equipping of the saints for works of service.

We believe the Church is led by Christ Himself through the appointed offices of pastors and elders, and that every believer is a minister of the gospel — gifted by the Holy Spirit and called to build up the body in love. Glorious Gospel Centre is one local expression of this universal family, planted in Leicester and reaching out to the nations.

Our Belief About the Bible

We believe the Bible — the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments — is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It was written by human authors moved by the Holy Spirit, in a way that fully preserved their personalities, contexts, and styles, while ensuring that every word is exactly what God intended.

We hold Scripture to be the supreme authority for faith and life — the only sure rule for what we believe, how we worship, and how we live. It is sufficient to make a person wise for salvation through faith in Christ, and equips believers for every good work.

We submit our preaching, our practice, our traditions, and our personal opinions to the teaching of God's Word. Scripture interprets Scripture, the clear passages illuminate the obscure, and the whole Bible bears witness to the person and work of Jesus Christ. We approach the Word with reverence, careful study, and a Spirit-led desire to obey what we read.
